KREYOLFEST Serves Diverse, Yet Strong Line Up

BROOKLYN, N.Y., In keeping with the tradition of providing the best in musical entertainment – HAITIAN TIMES has commissioned some of the biggest names in Haitian music for KREYOLFEST 2009.

The musical fare includes: CaRiMi, Djakout Mizik, Barikad Crew, ROCKFAM LAME A, Boukman Eksperyans, Kreyol La, Nu Look, and Do-La. KREYOLFEST, which is entering its 9th edition, is scheduled for Sunday, June 28, 2009 at Wingate Park in Brooklyn.

Since its inception in 2000, KREYOLFEST has maintained a reputation for outstanding professionalism, best organized Caribbean festival in New York and for experimenting with its line up to bring the most diverse, yet well put together performances.

“We’re tremendously satisfied with the line up,” said Garry Pierre-Pierre, publisher of the Haitian Times, Kreyolfest organizer. “As always, its diversity will bring the youth, as well the mature together to celebrate their Haitian heritage.”

KREYOLFEST 2009, whose theme this year is “Tou Neuf,” for this never seen before line-up in New York City. Some of the most talented bands in the Haitian music industry such as Djakout Mizik, CaRiMi, Nu Look, Kreyol La, Do-La of the Konpa genre meet Barikad Crew, ROCKFAM LAME A, of Rap/Hip hop Kreyol and Boukman Eksperyans of Racine.

In addition, the rara genre will be represented by two Brooklyn-based bands, Brother Hi and Djarara, who will jam at the opening of the gates and compete at intermissions.

Along with the great music, festival-goers and their kids will have a selection of fun pack outdoor activities to enjoy – such as face painting, slides, and games – from Noon until 4 PM. A major component of KREYOLFEST is a health fair where the adults and children can check their blood pressure, heart rate and dental checkup.

KREYOLFEST is the place to enjoy the various regional cuisines of Haiti as well as arts and crafts during this family oriented festival.

In addition, this year, the Haitian Times, KREYOLFEST organizers, is celebrating its 10th year anniversary and KREYOLFEST organizers are scheduling something special to commemorate such milestone. See you all at Wingate on the 28th.

General Admission: $25.00 in advance per person – $30 at the door. Kids under 12 free.
