Celebrating The 40th Anniversary Of Tabou Combo
(Haitian Konpa Band 1968-2008)
The Haitian Times in association with Enigma presents the 8th Annual KREYOLFEST at the Wingate Park in Brooklyn, New York, on Saturday June 28, 2008. KREYOLFEST is the largest outdoor Haitian festival in the northeastern region of the United States.
On June 19, a Press Conference hosted by B.E. RELATIONS, LLC., was held at Konbit Restaurant in the heart of downtown Brooklyn. Various media organization and host personalities from the Haitian community were in attendance. Gary Pierre-Pierre (CEO of Haitian Times), Darlie Gervais (General Manager of Haitian Times) and Yves Joseph A.K.A Fanfan (Vocalist /Tabou Combo’s original member) headed the conference and set the tone for what to expect this year at the 8th Annual KREYOLFEST. Gary Pierre-Pierre pointed out that The Haitian Times is dedicated to supporting the Haitian community and having KREYOLFEST in Brooklyn, where there is a high Haitian concentration, is a way to give back to the community. Darlie Gervais focused on the fact that KREYOLFEST represents a wide spectrum of Haitian culture–a market place, food and music. This year, KREYOLFEST will pay homage to the Legendary Haitian Konpa band “Tabou Combo”. The eloquent Fanfan was the guest of honor and he took us down Tabou Combo’s memory line.
Tabou Combo has international recognition, and created hits after hits for 40 years. The members not only are great musicians/composers, they understand the rules of stage performance. Back in the days, how can we forget their Earth Wind and Fire-inspired costumes, their laser light “Star Wars” wands, the signature boot camp push-ups of Shoubou (lead vocalist) and the well choreographed movements designed with the audience’s participation in mind. Tabou Combo has performed in venues like Summerstage, Carnegie Hall, Zenith and
Olympia etc. “Tabou Combo’s relentless and high-energy style of Compas dance beat knows no language barrier.” For more info:
Fanfan promised the fans that the KREYOLFEST performance will be a once-in-a-lifetime presentation, where most of Tabou Combo’s former musicians will reunite and grace the stage. The younger generation Konpa groups in the line-up will each be performing one of Tabou Combo’s songs to honor their success and longevity. Come and bear witness. Find out if the new generation Konpa bands are up to the challenge. Be a part of history in the making. Purchase your tickets early. Be there at KREYOLFEST.
