KREYOLFEST 2008 To Sizzle As It Highlights 40 Years of TABOU COMBO!

BROOKLYN – To honor Tabou Combo’s legacy, the world’s most famous konpa band, Kreyolfest organizers are preparing a dazzling celebration during the festival on Saturday June 28, 2008 at Wingate Park.
In addition organizers are asking each band in the line up to play a rendition of a Tabou song during their set at Kreyolfest. A prize will be given to the band with the best interpretation.
Tabou Combo, which is celebrating its 40th year anniversary, has promised to put an unforgettable show during its one hour performance at the largest outdoor Haitian festival in the northeast United States. Musicians like Dadou Pasket, Herman Nau, Elysee Pyronneau, Adolph Chancy, Danny Lebeau and others will grace the stage at Kreyolfest for this great celebration.
This year, in addition to Tabou Combo, Kreyolfest features: T-Vice, Carimi, Zenglen, Krezi Mizik, Zin, Vwadezil, Black Parents, Lakou, a rasin band from Haiti and the New York-based Rasin Okan.

Kreyolfest, whose theme is “A taste of Haiti in New York,” is known for its professionalism and being a well-organized event where bands get to play their full set in a relaxed atmosphere. This year, the festivities include the Kiddy Carnival, health fair and of course, a plethora of Haitian cuisine from different regions of Haiti.
“We bring something new and exciting to Kreyolfest every year,” said Darlie Gervais, general manager of the Haitian Times, Kreyolfest’s organizers. “This is no different. We believe the Tabou Combo celebration will be one for the ages.”

Gervais pointed to Kreyolfest homage to Konpa Direk 50th year anniversary in 2005 as a standard bearer for celebration. The event, which was broadcast live in Haiti, was imitated but not duplicated. Julien Paul, Konpa’s first lead singer, performed and gave a memorable interview and died six months later at the age of 9X.
As it has for the last three years, Kreyolfest , will again be broadcast live in Haiti for about eight hours on TeleGuinen in Port-au-Prince with relays throughout the country, attracting more than one million viewers.

Prizes will be given to those who come early. See you all at Wingate.
